Kim Kirkland spent her childhood in East Orange, New Jersey, writing poems making up stories to tell her friends. Early on, she wrote about flowers, animals, people, and feelings. These heartfelt stories always provided insight and solutions to common feelings (e.g., love, hope, and happiness) She has spent her adult years writing poetry for her job, to help promote special events (e.g., Unity Day, Women’s Day, and Breast Cancer Awareness Month) and also recites spoken word. She was encouraged to write stories for the public, and now types her stories for all to read. Adults as well as children love her stories, which provide great lessons for all.
Kim received a B.S., in Chemistry from Tennessee State University, Nashville Tennessee in 1980. She received her Masters degree, in Public Policy from the University of Maryland, in 1996.
She is the author of several poems, but one of her favorites is,“I'm A Survivor”, a poem written for Sisters, Network Inc., A non-profit, National African American breast cancer survivorship organization.
